Converging Skis

Converging Skis

When the skis converge, the tails are spread further apart than the tips.  Think of a snow plow.  It's commonly seen at the beginning of a turn, where it's referred to as a stem turn.  The tail of the uphill ski is projected uphill, then the skier step onto that stemmed uphill ski.  It's a way of quickly completing the first portion of a turn.  It accomplished the same thing a pivot does, but with the legs working independently, and the skis not needing to be unweighted.
