Clean Initiation

The refers to executing transitions that contain no pivot or push.  It can be done when connecting both carved or steered turns.  In carved turns, the skis are simply tipped from their uphill to their downhill edges, with absolutely no twisting of the feet and skis downhill.  The sidecut does all the work of initiating the turn.  When steering, the skis are again rolled from their uphill to downhill edges, then steering power is gently and progressively applied.   The result is  a very gradual change of direction at the start of the turn, with the top half of the turn that taking as long to complete as the bottom half.
