White Pass Lean

White Pass Lean

“White Pass Lean” was a term created to identify a spontaneous recovery move made by American ski racer Steve Mahre, while competing in a World Cup Slalom race in the 1980’s.  It involves finishing a turn balanced on the outside ski, and beginning the next turn balanced on that same ski.

Soon after Steve’s creative recovery was seen, the move was named and made into a balance training drill.  The drill remains, still today, a popular training tool across the world of ski instruction.
