Push Initiation

Push Initiation

A push initiation is a twisting of the feet and skis during a transition, while the skis are still weighted.  It serves to redirect the skis downhill for a quick start of the new turn. and also provides a breaking effect, for when speed control is a concern.  It's similar to a pivot initiation, in that both twist and redirect the skis down the falline during the transition between turns.  They differ in that a pivot redirects the skis while they're unweighted.  A pivot initiation provides a bit quicker change of direction at the start of the turn, but a push initiation does more to keep speed under control.
