Pivoting

Pivoting

Pivoting is a twisting of the skis while they are unweighted and/or unengaged, which does not actually produce a turn until the skis are pressured and the edges reengaged.  Imagine doing an up unweighting during your transition between turns.  While you're disengaged from the snow turn your skis in the direction of the new turn.  You will keep travelling in the direction you were when you did the up move, regardless how much you twist and redirect your skis to point downhill.  Only when you come back down to earth, reapply pressure to your skis and engage your edges will you begin to actually change your direction of travel.  That's a pivot.
