Degree Of Turn

DeGree of turn

Degree of turn refers to how far out of the falline a skier continues to turn before rolling off edge and bringing the turn to a conclusion.  Traveling straight down the falline would represent a 0 degree  turn, and finishing a turn with your skis pointing perpendicular to the falline would represent a 90 degree turn.  Along with radius and skid angle, degree of turn is a valuable speed control tool.  The larger the degree of turn, the slower a skier will travel as they descend the mountain.

A turn can also be of a degree greater than 90.  In this case, the turn continues until the skier is pointing up hill, and speed is shed rapidly.
