Carving

Carving

Tipping a ski on edge, causing it to bend,  and its sidecut to do all the work of producing a turn.   No twisting, steering or pivoting of the feet and skis is involved.   All points along the edge of the ski, from tip to tail, follow the exact same track through the snow.   A thin carve track is left behind, similar to what the blade of a skate leaves in the ice.  The softer the snow, the deeper that track.
